The ground floor cafe in the tower is popular for its delicious shish-kebab and local wine.
The Akhun Mountain Observation Tower is pretty hard to miss - what with it being the highest mountain around, located about 10 km southwest of the city center. Atop of the mountain is an old observation tower that was built in 1936, which can actually be seen from the center of Sochi itself.
The road leading to Akhun Mountain’s observation tower is about 7.5 miles long, so a taxi will be necessary for most people that want to visit. The austere lines of the observation tower feel almost Romanesque; this structure is a lot more extravagant than later Soviet examples. The tower is 30.5 meters tall, tapering inwards at the top to a narrow observation platform that provides awe-inspring views of the city and superb photo opportunities.
